National Council of Teachers of English Annual Convention

Dear Colleagues
As you quite likely know, Colorado English Language Arts teachers have a rare opportunity this fall. The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) will hold its Annual Convention in Denver, November 20-23, bringing over 8000 teachers, scholars, and authors conveniently to our backyard.
The theme is “Dream Boldly,” and our own Colorado Language Arts Society is local host. In fact, CLAS is hosting a special reception for all Colorado English educators during the convention, and you’re invited.
Please join us!
The conference will feature hundreds of concurrent sessions: workshops, demonstrations, and research presentations on state-of-the-art topics such as:
Artificial Intelligence
Best practices for teaching reading, writing, communications, media, multimodal literacies
Literacy development for civic participation and for workplaces
Teaching students from multiple backgrounds, including second-language learners
Teaching literature
Recent outstanding books
In addition, some 300 authors will talk about their works, sign books, and hold conversations. Some 150 exhibitors will showcase the latest resources, distributing many of them free. Keynote sessions will include internationally renowned speakers, such as Percival Everett, author of the Pulitzer-winning novel James.
We urge leaders at department, district, and system levels to support your participation. This is the highest-level comprehensive professional development, available locally for less than the cost of a single visiting presenter. Let us know if you’d like us to reach out to your principal or district leaders.
